Up to $10 Million in Contribution Funding
Energy Innovation Program – Off-Site Construction Challenge
Increasing Canada’s housing supply must go hand in hand with improving affordability, resilience, and environmental performance. To help meet this need, the Natural Resources Canada Off-Site Construction Challenge is advancing innovative approaches that modernize how multi-unit residential buildings are designed and built.
Delivered under the Energy Innovation Program, the Natural Resources Canada Off-Site Construction Challenge supports industry leaders in demonstrating how off-site construction methods can deliver high-performance, energy-efficient, and climate-resilient housing at scale. Finalists receive funding to develop their designs, and the winning team receives significant contribution funding to bring their project to life—helping accelerate the adoption of advanced construction practices across Canada.
Challenge Phases
There are two phases to the challenge, each providing funding to selected applicants:
- Phase 1 (Design Stage): Grants of up to $180,000 to support detailed design, engineering, and project planning.
- Phase 2 (Implementation Stage): Successful Phase 1 applicants can compete for contribution funding of up to $10 million to support project build-out and demonstration.
